The Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (Dgspc) reported this Monday that it provides attendance medical inside Argenis Contreraswho was admitted to the Dr. Juan Pablo Pina Provincial Hospital after he made an attempt on his life, last Friday ingesting a high dose of the pills that were prescribed for him to regulate his blood pressure combined with insecticide.
The general director of the Dgspc, Colonel Roberto Hernández Basilio, reported in a press release that Contreras is out of danger and is under supervision of effective of special units of the service institution in the medical center.
Likewise, he said that he will be given the attendance psychological necessary once you are discharged medical.
Contreras was arrested in 2021 in the Dominican Republic in connection with the murder of the lawyer and human rights activist, Yuniol Ramirez. The case is linked to a corruption scandal involving political and business figures in the country.
He murder de Ramírez occurred in October 2017, and the research pointed out Contreras as one of the main involved in it crime. It was alleged that Contreras was the one who carried out the murder under the orders of other people, and that the reason was related to his fight against corruption in the public administration.
Contreras was arrested in 2021 after being on the run for some time. His capture was an important step in process judicial that seeks to clarify and punish those responsible for the murder of Ramirez. He is serving a 20-year prison sentence for the death of the professor and lawyer.

Basilio also announced that Contreras is expected to be discharged in the next few hours, after the staff in the areas of internal medicine, nephrology and gastro who care for him consider it pertinent.
Furthermore, he indicated that the research to determine the circumstances in which the event occurred, which “did not materialize thanks to the constant supervision and rapid intervention” of the Penitentiary Surveillance and Treatment (VTP) personnel.
