The governor of the state of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, stated on the afternoon of Sunday, January 19, that a social and medical plan was activated to assist those displaced from Catatumbo who arrive in the García de Hevia municipality, where two care points were installed for the Colombian citizens in La Fría and Casigua del Cubo, bordering the southern area of ​​the Lake.

Bernal, who offered statements at the end of the Vuelta al Táchira, highlighted that a parallel security device was put in place in order to prevent the alleged incursion of irregular armed groups of the ELN or FARC dissidents into Venezuelan territory.

“The security operation on the border has been reinforced with combat units because it could happen that in the midst of the internal confrontation some armed groups will try to enter Venezuela and disturb the peace that the Government has achieved efficiently and with which, the people tachirense has already gotten used to living,” he highlighted.

He said that, although as of Sunday there is no record of entry of Colombian citizens from Catatumbo, the important thing is that Colombia can resolve its internal problems “we must be vigilant to prevent it from affecting us,” and he also said that “historically” The citizens of the neighboring country have been welcomed.

The Ministry of the Interior and Justice reported on Sunday January 19or that four humanitarian attention points were installed in the municipalities of Jesús María Semprún, in Zulia, and in García de Hevia, in Táchira, to assist those displaced by the armed conflict that is taking place in the neighboring region of Catatumbo; which has already left at least 80 dead.

Through its Instagram account, the portfolio directed by Diosdado Cabello indicated that at these points some 812 people were assisted from Thursday the 16th to Sunday the 19th in order to offer them shelter while Colombia seeks a ceasefire in the area. of Catatumbo.

According to the official balance, among the displaced people assisted there are 352 men, 258 women and 202 children in the humanitarian corridors in the support centers that receive those affected, located specifically at kilometer 16, Rural Command Detachment 11-1 “Mi Ranchito”, Puente Ecuador and the Esmirda de Muñoz School.
