Much of the country is on alert for potential danger of intense rain this Sunday (19), according to a forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). A strip that extends from the north of Amapá to the southwest of Rio Grande do Sul, passing through 21 states and the Federal District, is predicted to have high volumes of rain and intense winds.
The formation of a low pressure system in the southern region of the country has intensified rain in the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, where the warning is of danger. In the northwest, southwest and in part of the center of Rio Grande do Sul, there is a risk of gales, with winds varying between 60 and 100 kilometers per hour (km/h) until 6 pm this Sunday.
The formation of a broad area of low pressure should give rise to a cyclone that will intensify, cross the state and move towards the ocean between Sunday night and Monday (20).
Heavy rain showers with thunderstorms and volumes exceeding 50 millimeters in 24 hours are forecast. Hail and wind gusts above 80 km/h may also occur between Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
This instability will move to the north of Santa Catarina and Paraná, on Monday afternoon, also reaching part of the coast of Rio Grande do Sul, until it loses strength during the night. In Porto Alegre the maximum temperature will be 33 degrees Celsius (ºC), and the minimum will be 23ºC.
In Brasília, the forecast is also for skies with many clouds and isolated rain showers. The maximum will be 28ºC, and the minimum, 18º. In Salvador, the forecast is for many clouds with isolated rain and temperatures ranging from 23ºC to 29ºC.
