A group of local journalists was attacked while covering the arrival of the leader of the political group Alliance for Progress (APP) and regional governor of La Libertad, Cesar Acuna Peralta, to the Iquitos airport.
According to statements and videos collected by the Human Rights Office of the National Association of Journalists of Peru (ANP), the attack occurred around 3:15 in the afternoon on Saturday, January 18 in the vicinity of the Coronel FAP Francisco Secada International Airport. Vignetta of Iquitos.
Reporters from different media went to the airport upon learning of Acuña’s arrival.
The APP congresswoman for Loreto, Rosío Torres Salinas, was also present, along with her spouse, the former congressman for the same group, Fernando Meléndez Celis.
“The reporters indicate that along with Torres and Meléndez, several individuals arrived with vests identified with the APP logo, some with the word “SECURITY” on the back,” reports the ANP.
When Acuña Peralta prepares to leave the airport, accompanied by the parliamentarian and her husband, the subjects with the APP vest form a human cordon on each side of the door, leaving the reporters behind.
REJECT ATTACKS
While the leader of the political group was heading to the parking lot, the journalists tried to approach him to ask him questions, however, this caused the men in blue vests to start the confrontation against the reporters, pushing them.
“During this brawl, the journalists received blows to different parts of their bodies, some were even pinned to the ground, and others had their work equipment damaged,” the ANP warned.
The attackers withdrew along with Acuña, Torres and Meléndez, forming a caravan of motorcycle taxis with APP banners.
“Some reporters indicated that they intended to ask César Acuña regarding the actions he would take regarding the investigation being carried out on Torres for the “mocha salaries” case,” said the association, and then denounced and rejected the attacks suffered by journalists from Iquitos during journalistic coverage.
