Ecopetrol activates operational continuity plan in Catatumbo due to public order situation

According to Ecopetrol, there could be restrictions on gas supply in the city of Cúcuta and Tibú due to public order disruptions.

Ecopetrol announced that it activated its operational continuity plan in the Tibú, Sardinata and Oripaya fields, located in Catatumbo, Norte de Santander, due to recent mobility restrictions due to the delicate public order situation in the region.

The company decided to operate with the minimum vital personnel in these fields, which together They produce around 1,900 barrels of oil equivalent per day and 4 million cubic feet of gas daily.

The preventive measure aims to guarantee the safety of workers and nearby communities, given the context of instability. Direct staff and contractors in the area saw their mobility restricted to avoid risks, which forced Ecopetrol to take precautions against a possible deterioration of the situation.

In the event that the public order situation worsense, Ecopetrol warned that there could be restrictions on the gas supply in the city of Cúcuta and Tibú, which would affect the energy supply of both communities.

If this scenario materializes, we will also proceed with the temporary suspension of contracts and activities in the production fields, which would impact nearly 300 contractors operating in the area.

The company emphasized that the suspension of activities would be inevitable if security in the area is not guaranteed. Ecopetrol expressed its solidarity with the communities of Catatumbo and reiterated its commitment to the safety of its employees, contractors and to the continuity of operations under safe conditions.
