After being accused of practicing witchcraft, an 11-year-old boy was buried alive by members of the Chekitabo native community, jurisdiction of the town center of Oventeni, district of Raymondi, province of Atalaya – Ucayali, bordering Junín.
After learning of such an abominable decision, the head of the community, with the help of the minor’s companions, managed to rescue him alive and set him free.
Not everyone in the area supported this punishment and described the act as violence and discrimination against an 11-year-old Asháninka boy.
Local press reported that the inquisitors heard news that the minor was dedicated to witchcraft, which is why they threatened to make the drastic decision of burying him alive.
THEY SAVE HIM IN TIME
Fortunately, the peasant patrol from the same community intervened in time and managed to rescue the child, preventing him from suffering further damage.
Local authorities and the justice of the peace arrived in the area to file a complaint with the police station.
Thus, the pertinent investigations are being carried out to clarify the case and take the corresponding measures.
This case highlights the need to protect the rights of children and indigenous communities, and to combat discrimination and violence in all their forms. It is expected that the authorities will take firm measures to guarantee the safety of the minor.
