When commemorating the reception of the Lunar New Year, Zhu Jian, charge d’affaires of the Chinese embassy in Mexico, highlighted the close bilateral relationship between both countries in political, economic and cultural matters, thanks to the work led by President Claudia Sheinbaum and President Xi Jinping since last year.

A significant milestone was the face-to-face meeting between Xi and Sheinbaum at the G-20 leaders’ summit last November, which further cemented ties between both nations. Both leaders agreed on the importance of continuing to improve exchanges and promote pragmatic cooperationsaid the representative.

From the embassy, he pointed out that the trade volume between both nations exceeded 100 million dollars in 2024, which positioned China as Mexico’s second trading partner and Mexico as China’s second trading partner in Latin America.

Zhu highlighted that Chinese imports have been fundamental for the development of the Mexican manufacturing industry and have strengthened the competitiveness of foreign trade for the country.

In addition, he pointed out that the investment has promoted the development of transportation structures or key sectors, such as automotive, telecommunications and clean energy.

The manager also expressed his gratitude, on behalf of the embassy, to the Mexican federal government, as well as the state and municipal governments, for their support and promotion of bilateral relations and cooperation in all aspects, such as the economy, trade , culture, education and infrastructure.

A week before the celebrations begin, he recalled that the Lunar New Year, whose animal corresponds to the Wood Snake, acknowledged: “In China, snakes are also called ‘dragon incarnation’, and the feathered serpent, or Quetzalcóatl is an important totem in many Latin American countries, including Mexico.”

With the arrival of this holiday, Fernando González Saiffe, general director for Asia-Pacific of the Mexican Foreign Ministry, indicated during the event the 53rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries and 12 years of the strategic partnership they maintain will be commemorated. He assured that this relationship is also multilateral because different convergences are shared in the G-20, APEC, Celac, the World Trade Organization and other international bodies.

Yeidckol Polevnsky, president of the Asia-Pacific Foreign Relations Committee in the Senate, highlighted that the two nations share the vision of building peace as a vital element for prosperity.

If China does well, Mexico and the world do well.
