Miami.- The renowned Cuban actor Mario Limonta He died in Havana on the afternoon of this Saturday, January 18, 2025, as confirmed by the news portal. Cubascena. The popular artist would have turned 89 this Sunday, January 19.

Limonta underwent surgery early Thursday morning in a Havana hospital. Although the operation had positive results, he remained in intensive care as part of the medical protocol.

Born in Guantánamo on January 19, 1936, Mario Limonta began his artistic career as a speaker on the radio in his native province. Later, he moved to Havana, where he joined the dramatic spaces of the Cuban National Circuit, currently Radio Rebelde. His film debut occurred in 1964 with the film “The Decision”, directed by José Massip.

Throughout his prolific career, Limonta participated in notable film productions such as “In a Certain Way” (1974), “El Brigadista” (1977), “Portrait of Teresa” (1979), “Miel para Oshún” (2001) and “The horn of plenty” (2009). On television, he is especially remembered for his interpretation of Sergeant Arencibia in the humorous “San Nicolás del Peladero”. Additionally, on the radio, he gave life to the character “Sandalio el vola’o” in the popular program “Alegrías de Sobremesa”, a space he shared for years with his wife, actress Aurora Basnuevo, known as “La Mulatísima”.

Mario Limonta’s life was intertwined with “la mulatísima” for more than 60 years. They met on the program “The Supreme Court of Art”, by José Antonio Alonso, and married in 1960. Their union lasted until death of Basnuevo on September 26, 2022.
