Santo Domingo.-The Ministry of Education He stated this Saturday that he will expand the investigations to reestablish the responsibilities of the school management staff in the case of the Professor Jairo Misael Ramos Taverasaccused of raping, impregnating and forcing an abortion on a 16-year-old student from the Hermanos Paquito primary school, located in the Villa Cero community, in Higüey, La Altagracia province.
The Minister of Education, Ángel Hernándezsaid that the school staff has to explain why Professor Ramos Taveras abused the teenage student for three years and did not take measures to reverse that situation with sanctioning and exemplary actions.
“These attacks against the physical and mental health of our students must be stopped and the school authorities must intervene,” said the official.

“The zero tolerance policy on this type of activity will be strengthened and appropriate measures will be taken in accordance with the Ministry’s code of ethics and the regulations of the Child Protection Law,” he insisted in a press statement.

The Public Ministry requested before the Permanent Attention Office of the province of La Altagracia the imposition of preventive detention, against Professor Ramos Taveras.
Last Friday the Court postponed to next Thursday, January 23, the hearing where the measure of coercion against the teacher will be heard.
The document requesting a measure of coercion indicates that the teenager, whose name is omitted to preserve her rights, presented herself alone to the Unit for the Prevention and Prosecution of Gender Violence, Domestic Violence and Sexual Crimes of the Higüey Prosecutor’s Office and reported that Professor Ramos Taveras had sexually abused her since she was 13 years old, and as a result of these relationships she became pregnant.
The teenager explained that upon finding out about her pregnancy, Ramos Taveras, who at the time was a mathematics teacher, told her that she could not continue with the pregnancy, because it would put her job at risk and forced her to have an abortion.
Psychological assistance
He Ministry of Education reported, through the Direction of Guidance and Psychologywhich is offering psychological and emotional support to the sexually assaulted student.
He assured that he provides comprehensive psychological support to both the victim and his family, to help them face this difficult situation and guarantee their emotional stability.
The Ministry reiterated that it will not tolerate any act that violates the rights of students.
