Death penalty for rapists: Minister of Justice says they will listen to all voices

He Minister of Justice and Human RightsEduardo Arana, headed the third national hearing that debates the proposal to apply the death penalty for rapists of minors. The session took place in the Auditorium of the Arequipa Bar Association, and was attended by representatives of public institutions and grassroots organizations,

“We want to listen not only to organized citizens through their bases and organizations, but also to technical institutions (professional colleges and unions) and to those who believe they can contribute to the legal system,” said the minister.

The head of the Minjusdh specified that the government of President Dina Boluarte has a position of openness to open and frank dialogue, and that in each session the popular sentiment of the participants and listeners of the audiences is being collected through a virtual survey.

“Until the month of March, these hearings will be held in various regions of the country. Then, the Commission in charge will issue a technical report with the development of each of these sessions,” he announced to media outlets in the region.

Congressman Jorge Montoya also attended the meeting, as well as the prosecutor of the Superior Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Violence against Women and Members of the Arequipa Family Group, Yajaira Huamán; the provincial mayor of Arequipa, Víctor Rivera, and the regional councilor for Arequipa, Marlene Arminta.

There were also representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office, the Archbishopric of Arequipa, religious organizations, the mayors of Yanaquihua and Alto Selva Alegre, James Casquino and Alfredo Benavente, respectively.
