The Ministry of Education reestablished teaching this Thursday at the María Trinidad Sánchez school, in Boca Chica, after dismissing the district director responsible for the proper functioning of the school and appointing a new interim director.
Oscar Amargós, Vice Minister of Supervision and Control of Educational Quality of the Ministry, was in charge of actions that allowed the reopening of classes in that campus of 23 classrooms and nearly 800 primary level students.
The official said that at 8:45 in the morning this Thursday, the new director of school district 10-05, Helen Barreiro Marte, positioned the interim director of the school, Raisa Pérez Trinidad.
The previous district director, Daniela Pool Lantigua, was removed from the position for negligence, allowing the school to close.

“There was a failure to comply with the controls of that educational center,” said Amargó, at the conclusion of the investigations into the case.
The problems of the María Trinidad Sánchez school They began last December, when its director was transferred and the position became headless.
“The substitute should have been appointed immediately, but it was not done with the speed that should have been done and the management team that governed the school during that time did not know how to face the problems that arose,” said Amargós.
Until further notice
This week, the students’ parents received a statement in which they were informed that classes were suspended “until further notice.”
The statement was signed by leaders of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) who alleged that the campus lacked the necessary hygienic conditions to teach.
The statement reported that the educational center could not receive the children, because they did not have the appropriate infrastructure or the personnel for cleaning.
“Students and teachers near the bathrooms complain about the bad smell that reaches the classrooms,” parents were informed.
Immediately, the Ministry of Education stated that the reasons given did not justify closing the school without consultation.
Education appoints janitors
Amargós said that the Ministry of Education will appoint new personnel to replace 2 school janitors who had to be absent from work for health reasons.
He attributed the lack of hygiene in the school to the absence of janitors.
