The demands of schools are such that school lists sometimes become unattainable for parents, although according to experts, planning expenses and anticipating the purchase of materials can help to have significant savings on the list. useful, the extensive lists of some schools mean that there are many complaints from parents.
What schools cannot require in the 2025 school list
Some institutions request unusual and unconventional school supplies on their lists, which indicates greater expense and dissatisfaction, since each school can define the list of elements that they will request from students for the proper development of academic activities.
The school lists of each school must be approved by the directors of each institution, as indicated by law 1269 of 2008 in Colombia. This law precisely seeks to control excesses in the quantity and suitability of the requested elements.
First of all, this law says that schools cannot impose brands or suppliers for the purchase of supplies, it is the parents themselves who decide where to buy them. On the other hand, the ordinance talks about uniforms, which must be worn by students throughout the year; However, they could not exclude them from the training process in the classrooms if the parents do not have the economic conditions to buy them.
According to the undersecretary of education of Bogotá, there is a list of supplies that schools should not ask for, among them are: erasers, reams of paper, toilet paper, hand soaps, floor cleaning fluids, wipes, insecticides, and medications.
However, it also points out the measures that parents must take in the event of irregularities with the purchase of the school list. The complaint must be made to the national Secretary of Health or the municipality where you live. Another entity you can go to is the Ombudsman’s Office, who will be in charge of carrying out an inspection before proceeding with the school institution.
While it is true that many parents do not skimp when it comes to their children’s education, it is good to take these issues into account so as not to fall into excessive costs and buy the really necessary supplies.
