Regime grants conditional freedom to political prisoner Luis Robles

MIAMI, United States. – Cuban political prisoner Luis Robles Elizástigui benefited from the measure of conditional freedom this Thursday, within the framework of the release of 553 Cuban inmates after negotiations between the Cuban regime and the Vatican and the United States Government.

The news was confirmed to CubaNet by relatives of the young man, who also specified that he must comply with some restrictions related to freedom of movement.

Robles Elizástigui was admitted to the La Lima correctional work camp (Guanabacoa), where he was transferred on June 3, 2024, according to statements by his mother, Yindra Elizástigui Jardines, to CubaNet. Previously he was held in the correctional camp known as “El 18”, adjacent to the El Pitirre prison (15-80).

While in that penitentiary center, the Cuban regime denied him the benefit of conditional release.

Robles Elizástigui is serving a five-year prison sentence for demonstrating with a sign on San Rafael Boulevard, in Havana. The young man from Guantanamo was convicted of the alleged crimes of “enemy propaganda” and “disobedience.”

Initially, he was held in the maximum security prison Eastern Combine. Later, after several complaints from his relatives and denials from the prison authorities, he received a change to a minimum security regime and was transferred to the camp known as Zone Zero, from where he went to El 18.
