At the end of last year, Velázquez announced that he did not rule out that someone from the opposition join his badge. However, he left the decision to sectional and convention leaders on this possibility. Less than a month ago, they asked Velázquez to discard this intention due to the rejection that he generated in the party bases.
“Less than a month ago, meetings were held, first with the conventional members and then with the sectional presidents. The response of both segments was forceful, the rejection of this possibility. That is why the path of electing the vice president within the party was taken, ”he reported.
He stressed that he is convinced by the figure of Brunetti as a member of the veneer since it will be of great help for the type of campaign they have been carrying out.
“The vice president must complement the candidate for president. In this case, Brunetti comes from the academic sector. He has a very big influence on the youth and that is going to add up a lot”, he affirmed.
Finally, he said that no applicant has refused to be Velázquez’s vice president. He stated that until Monday night the vice president had not been defined, so Brunetti was the first to receive the invitation.
“None were previously offered. The decision was made by the vice president. It was communicated to the designated and he accepted. From there it became public”, he concluded.

Lilian Samaniego, national senator for the ANR, described the duo made up of Velázquez and Brunetti as “presentable and competitive”. This, after an impromptu press conference given in her office in the Senate.
“You have to respect everyone, the challenge is to keep the party in power. He is a prepared person (for Brunetti). He is a Colorado committed to the party,” he said.
He stressed that he would have liked a woman to accompany Velázquez for the vice presidency. “There are many prepared and capable women within the party,” she concluded.
