EDEEste afirma que cerró 2024 con avances claves

The Eastern Electricity Distribution Company (EDEEste) closed 2024 with important achievements in its commitment to improve the quality of electrical service and reduce energy losses in its concession area. During the year, the distributor intensified its efforts to address irregularities in electrical installations, improve the recruitment of formal users and strengthen the sustainability of the system.

Among the most notable actions, EDEEste reported the repowering of 16 electrical substationsa project that involved an investment greater than billion pesos. These improvements directly benefit more than 800,000 familiesoptimizing the electricity supply in multiple communities. The investments will also help significantly minimize power outages due to surges during the summer of 2025, a season when energy demand traditionally increases due to high temperatures.

Furthermore, EDEEste managed to normalize 97,280 irregularities detected in their networks, the result of technical inspections carried out in different communities. They also joined 33,572 new users to the formal distribution system, reinforcing the objective of providing safe and reliable energy to more homes and businesses. These figures reflect significant progress in the fight against illegal connections and electrical fraud, factors that have historically affected the efficiency of the service in the provinces under its management.

The collaboration with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Electrical Fraud (PGASE) was essential this year, with the presentation of 596 complaints for cases of electrical fraud and the carrying out of more than 50,000 dismantlements of illegal connections. These interventions not only positively impacted the reduction of losses, but also promoted a culture of legality and transparency in the use of electrical service.

EDEEste’s Persistent Challenges

Despite the progress, EDEEste still faces important challenges. At the end of 2024, energy losses in its concession area stood at a worrying level. 54.7%with an economic impact that exceeds 30,000 million pesos. This percentage shows the magnitude of the challenge that the company faces in its mission to achieve an efficient and sustainable operation.

Among the provinces with the highest loss rates are Higüey, with a 63.9%Monte Plata, with a 63.8%and Santo Domingo Norte, with a 63.5%. Other areas such as La Romana (60.06%) and Boca Chica (60.5%) also reported high rates, evidencing the need to redouble efforts in these locations.

To face this situation, EDEEste has intensified its interventions in key sectors such as Los Mameyes, Las Malvinas, Invivienda, Villas Agrícolas, Guaricanos, Los Tres Brazos, Guerra, and central areas of Higüey and La Romana. In these areas, inspection, standardization and improvement work on electrical installations has been carried out, seeking to reduce losses and guarantee a more efficient service.

As part of the strategies to mitigate energy losses in sectors where these exceed the 50%EDEEste implemented a supply control plan. This measure, designed to optimize electricity supply management, includes scheduled service interruptions for three hours a day in the areas identified with the highest incidence of losses. The objective is to reduce the financial impact derived from unbilled consumption while strengthening standardization work.

To facilitate communication with affected customers, EDEEste has enabled a consultation system on its web portal, where the detailed schedule of these interruptions is published. In addition, users can access updated information through the alternative service channels that the distributor has available.

A Renewed Commitment

Through these actions, EDEEste reaffirms its commitment to optimizing the electrical system and the fight against energy fraud, facing challenges with determination and specific strategies. By 2025, the company plans to continue implementing measures that strengthen the trust of its users and promote a more balanced technical and financial operation.

EDEEste’s management in 2024 demonstrates a sustained effort to transform electricity distribution in the East of the country, with a view to a more reliable, sustainable and accessible service for all.
