SANTO DOMINGO.-Marco Rubio, who was nominated by the president-elect of the United States as Secretary of State, cited the Dominican Republic among the countries in the region that, in his opinion, do things well.
In the confirmation hearing called by the Senate and responding to his colleague Tim Kaine about those countries in the region that he considered were right and what they would do as a nation to help them, Rubio pointed out the cases of Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Argentina.

He highlighted that the Dominican Republic was one of the first countries to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic and that it had once again consolidated its tourism industry.

From Argentina and Javier Milei, its president, said that he is an experienced economist and that he is taking the right steps to lift that country’s economy.
Rubio is the son of Cuban parents and when mentioning the island, he declared that he has “zero doubts” that Cuba is a country that promotes terrorism.
