The senator of the Popular Participation Movement (MPP) of the Broad Front, Lucía Topolansky, presented her official resignation on Wednesday from her seat in the Senate, after accumulating more than two decades in which she has been a deputy and a senator and has shared the leadership of the MPP together with her husband, also a former senator and former president of the Republic, José Mujica.
In a letter sent to the president of the Upper House and vice president of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, Topolansky expressed gratitude for “the joint work, friendship and knowledge of all the parties with which I lived during this time.”
It is emphasized that Parliament is the “most representative political body in the country” and that it is leaving because “to take care of it, the work and commitment must be total. Consequently, I must leave the bench so that the fulfillment of the task is complete”.
With his departure, added to that of Mujica, they bet that the MPP will be renewed with figures that maintain the leadership of this historic leftist political force, which is now reflected in faces such as those of Carolina Cosse or Yamandú Orsi.
“I leave the post to someone younger who will be able to participate more strongly,” Topolansky said in an interview with up people.
