The city of São Paulo began an operation to seize motorcycle taxis after the court suspended the service in the capital of São Paulo, by denying an injunction for company 99.
The Metropolitan Civil Guard and traffic agents approached motorcycles carrying a person on the back. During inspection actions carried out in the afternoon and early evening today, three motorcycles were seized.
The first seizure was around 4pm, on an avenue in the east zone, the largest and most populous region of the city. The ride, worth R$11, would take a woman from Vila Ré to a theater in the Cangaíba district, a journey that usually takes 10 to 15 minutes by motorbike, but around 50 minutes on trains and buses. Two other seizures occurred in the north of the city, on Avenida Brás Leme.
Sindimotos, a union linked to workers in the sector, advised that the provision of transport services be avoided, due to the legal dispute between the company and municipal management.
The Justice of São Paulo rejected the writ of mandamus filed this Wednesday (15) by company 99 in which it requested that the motorcycle taxi service continue to operate in the capital of São Paulo. The platform began transporting passengers on motorcycles yesterday morning in the city. Mayor Ricardo Nunes said that the company is not authorized to offer the service in the capital, as there is a municipal decree with this prohibition. 99 claims that federal legislation establishes that city halls can regulate and supervise the activity with specific requirements, but do not have the power to prohibit it.
