Petro appoints two new co-directors of the board of directors of Banco de la República

He President Gustavo Petro announced on the night of this Wednesday, January 15, that appointed as new co-directors of the board of directors of Banco de la República to the economists Laura Moisa and César Giraldo.

He president made his decision known through a trill of X, from his official account, where he noted that: “​I have decided in accordance with my constitutional powers, to appoint the economists Laura Moisa and César Giraldo to the board of directors of the Banco de la República.“.

Moisa, worked as vice-rector of the National University, at the Medellín headquarters, and became recognized in the academic and economic field, both in national and international organizations.

Giraldo. For its part, it is knowledgeable about tax issues and economic sustainability. Among some of his positions, it stands out that he was Technical and Economic Vice President at the Association of Banking and Financial Entities from 1994 and 1995.

The announcement was expected from the first days of the year, because it was a change that Petro would make in 2025, so the economic sectors were aware of it. who would be the two new members, of the five full-time members, of the Issuer’s board of directors.

It is also worth mentioning that the president has been critical of the decisions that, in matters of decrease in rates of the Colombian central bank have been carried outsince, as stated, a greater downward momentum will help the economy grow more, although the Issuer’s first responsibility is to control inflation.

Likewise, 2025 will have important challenges, since It is anticipated that reaching the goal of 3% inflation, despite the fact that in 2024 it ended at 5.2% and it will not be an easy task due to several factors.

In this way, the president would be left with the possibility of seeking more affinity with his ideas; by appointing two members, he could somehow have four of the seven votes in his favor.

Board members

The current board of directors is made up of Bibiana Taboada, since February 2021, That is, your (first) period in the entity expires.

Roberto Steiner, has been on the board since October 2019 and is characterized by being very technical and critical.
Mauricio Villamizar has been a member since February 2021.

For its part, Jaime Jaramillo-Vallejo, has been a member of the board of directors since April 2021. Olga Lucía Acosta Navarro was appointed by President Gustavo Petro in December 2022.

And the general manager, Leonardo Villar Gómez, was appointed by the board of directors itself in January 2021 and at the end of 2024 he was re-elected for a four-year period, which began on January 4 and will end in January 2029.
