The Congress of Paraguay approved this Wednesday, during an ordinary session, “to recognize the victory of the legitimately elected president Edmundo González Urrutia”; and “break diplomatic relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”
The Permanent Commission of the Congress of Paraguay This Wednesday, January 15, he supported the decision of the country’s president, Santiago Peña, to support Edmundo González Urrutia and not have ties with the Government of Nicolás Maduro, who cut off relations with Asunción after accusing her of ignorance of international law and the “principle of non-intervention”.
During an ordinary session held on this day, the 12 deputies and six senators who make up the Permanent Commission, which exercises legislative functions during the year-end recess of that power, discussed and approved two draft declarations related to Venezuela.
The first, promoted by pro-government senator Ernesto Zacarías, supported Peña’s “firm determination” to “recognize the victory of the legitimately elected president Edmundo González Urrutia.”
The draft declaration “supporting the decision of the Republic of Paraguay to break diplomatic relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”, promoted by deputies Miguel del Puerto and Jorge Ávalos, was also debated.
In the midst of the debate, during which the legislators proposed unifying the initiatives, the official deputy Alejandro Aguilera warned that the Maduro administration “is a problem and a danger for all of Latin America.”
Paraguay follows Uruguay
On January 14, the Permanent Commission of the Uruguayan Parliament approved a motion on the political situation in Venezuela, in which they affirm that “the oath of Nicolás Maduro was the configuration of a coup d’état, by ignoring the resounding victory of the opposition.”
With six votes in favor of 10 legislators present, the approved text declares that «on January 10, the culmination of a long process of political-institutional deterioration occurred in Venezuela; Today no one can deny that it is a dictatorship.
Edmundo González Urrutia will meet this Thursday, January 16, with the president of Costa RicaRodrigo Chaves, in San José, reported today the Presidential House of the Central American country.
The former ambassador met this Wednesday, January 15, with a group of Venezuelans residing in Guatemala City, Guatemala, in the Zona Pradera auditorium. The opponent arrived in the Central American country from the Dominican Republic, as part of a tour of several countries since before the controversial inauguration on January 10.
