Tapachula, Chis., Migrants who have a confirmed appointment to request asylum before the United States through the CBP One application saturate the offices of the National Migration Institute (INM), in this city, to obtain an exit pass and thus transit through the country to reach the northern border port assigned to them.
With the document issued by the INM, foreigners can board a bus or even travel by plane to the border with the United States to appear for their appointment, explained an immigration agent.
Yuraida Oliveros, from Venezuela, spent five months requesting the appointment online until she got it and has to appear in Brownsville, Texas, on January 23.
We registered as a family, asking for the appointment with faith and thank God it arrived for this month and we hope to pass soon
said the 32-year-old woman.
Guatemalan Esdras Lemus said that there were moments of stress due to waiting for the appointment for three months until he obtained it along with his wife and baby to appear in a week at the San Isidro pass, in Baja California.
The migrants expressed their concern about the arrival of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States, but they also have hope that legal means of entry into the country will be maintained. Although some have opted for caravans to cross the country irregularly, others have preferred to await processes before the authorities.
