The increase of transit for the Ecological avenue and the little interest shown by the authorities competent authorities to respect public spaces and green areas have awakened the appetite of families and merchants who they continue to occupy the fringe protected from the cliff of the Ecological avenue.
There are more and more business that settle in the south of the Ecologicalmainly from Hípica Avenue to Ciudad Juan Bosch. Grocery stores, cafes, warehouses, workshops, fry shops and even dealers can be seen in the protected strip by Law 381-92, the decree 1214 and Law 64-00 on the Environment.
Some sections of the flat part of the cliff are occupied by people who claim to have titles of property despite what is established in the legislations. Spaces fenced with metal mesh and warehouses for machinery and vans are part of the irregularities that can be observed on the road.
Others occupations
But also a disproportionate increase in shacks and housing concrete up to two and three levels. Most of the buildings have emerged after the inauguration of the Ecological avenue in August 2020 by the then president Danilo Medina, main route for the Ciudad Juan Bosch project that, in principle, contemplated the construction of about 25,000 housing.
But there are not only small and medium business along the avenue, also in front of Ciudad Juan Bosch, a large land of hundreds of meters without knowing who or those responsible for the construction of walls and placement of aluzinc is known.
There is a plan
The general secretary of the Mayor’s Office of Santo Domingo Este, Marcos Colón, stated that there is a plan and one resolution which was submitted to the Council of Aldermen to recover the spaces where there are illegal constructions.
“We asked the president to declare public utility a series of constructions and buildings that are in the Ecological and we are waiting for that decree go out to proceed with the evacuation of that entire area,” Colón said.
