SLP, Mexico.- The Cuban opposition leader Rosa María Payácoordinator of the citizen platform Cuba Decide, described as outrageous the decision of President Joe Biden’s administration to withdraw this Tuesday the designation of Cuba as a “State sponsor of terrorism.”

In a video exclusive sent to the editorial office of CubaNetthe Cuban activist considered the measures unjustified, since they help the Cuban military and do not benefit the people.

“There is no justification for removing the Cuban dictatorship from the list of sponsors of terrorism, not only because of its support for international terrorism and also in the Americas, but because every day that dictatorship exercises state terrorism against Cuban citizens,” Payá expressed.

None of these measures really help the Cuban people get out of the crisis, he argued, insisting that the revocation of sanctions on the Cuban military leadership allows financing repression in Cuba.

“The military entities that are now no longer regulated and will access funds thanks to this United States policy are the same ones that have accounts with billions of dollars abroad, while the Cuban people are dying of hunger. None of this contributes to alleviating the conditions of a failed state that the Cuban people face, because to get out of the crisis we have to get out of the dictatorship,” he exclaimed in the communication.

He also referred to the promise of the release of Cuban political prisoners, used to extract concessions from the United States, while the regime continues to imprison citizens for thinking differently.

This Tuesday, President Joe Biden’s administration withdrew the designation of Cuba as a “State Sponsor of Terrorism,” as announced in the page White House official.

The communication, signed by President Joe Biden, maintains that the Government of Cuba has not provided any support to international terrorism during the previous 6-month period; and that it has provided assurances that it will not support acts of international terrorism in the future.

The US Government suspended Likewise, Title III of the Cuban Freedom and Democratic Solidarity Act that came into force in 1996, and which was created to allow Americans, including Cubans nationalized, could sue before US courts the companies that are supposedly benefiting from properties in Cuba that were theirs 60 years ago, before the Revolution.

Both measures would be motivated by a promise from the Havana regime to the Catholic Church to free political prisoners.

After hearing the news, the Cuban Government advertisement the release of 553 prisoners “punished for various crimes.”

Without mentioning whether they are political prisoners, an official note from the Cuban Foreign Ministry states that the decision was made “based on a careful analysis based on the different modalities contemplated by the law, and as part of the just and humanitarian nature.” of the penal and penitentiary systems of Cuba.”

The prisoners, they argue, will receive their respective benefits “gradually,” indicated the Cuban Government, without specifying when the release would occur or who would benefit.
