The University Council of the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) demands the “immediate” release of Carlos Correa and requests the “cessation” of the deprivation of liberty and “any form of persecution” of Venezuelan citizens
The Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) published a statement this Tuesday, January 14, in which it rejects the “arbitrary detention” and “forced disappearance” of the journalist and director of the NGO Espacio Público, Carlos Correa.
In the letter, the University Council demands the “immediate” release of Correa; expresses his solidarity with his wife, Mabel Calderín, director of the UCAB Library; requests the “cessation” of the deprivation of liberty and “any form of persecution” of Venezuelan citizens; and “rejects” all “excess of power and excess.”
Carlos Correa has been missing since last Tuesday, January 7, when he was taken by people dressed in black, hooded, and taken in a car without license plates to an unknown destination when leaving his office, in the center of Caracas.

Correa Case
On the night of January 8, the Minister of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, said that Correa was “involved” in a “conspiracy plan,” and attacked NGOs in Venezuela, describing them as “money launderers.” ».
This January 13, Calderín said that they have gone to all the detention centers to ask about him and stated that in all of them they are denied his presence. In the same way, he stated: “We have done everything that needs to be done humanly and legally”, until the introduction of a Habeas Corpus; but “we still have no response.”
On January 10, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures to Correa.
Correa’s arrest is added to the more than 40 that have been registered between the last days of December and so far in January; among them, that of former Caracas councilor Jesús Armas; of the political leader of Chacao Luis Palocz and the son-in-law of Edmundo González Urrutia, Rafael Tudares.
