Nicaraguan migrant Kelvin Mendoza Cruz, 33, died in Houston, Texas, United States, after being shot in the head during an assault, reported the organization Texas Nicaraguan Community (TNC).
The organization detailed that Mendoza Cruz is originally from San Rafael del Sur, Managua, and had only two years after arriving in the United States, where he found work as a driver.
On January 1, when leaving a store, the Nicaraguan migrant was assaulted and the criminals, in addition to taking his belongings, shot him in the head.
Mendoza Cruz, TNC indicated, was transferred immediately after the assault to a hospital in Houston, Texas, where he spent ten days in the Intensive Care Unit.
The young man, after several days hospitalized, was declared brain dead by specialists and was subsequently disconnected at the request of the family.
They request support to repatriate the body
The family of the migrant Mendoza Cruz, through TNC, indicated that they wish to repatriate the body to Nicaragua and ask the entire population for support to achieve this.
Juan Mendoza Cruz, Kelvin’s brother, explained to the organization that people who wish to collaborate can make deposits to their Zelle account, at the number 832-546-5664.
In 2024, TNC counted that more than 200 Nicaraguan migrants died in the United States and Mexico in search of the “American dream.” Some of the deaths documented by the organization were due to traffic accidents (59), heart attacks (52), murders (29), cancer (11), stroke (10), covid-19 and others (5).
