The president of the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI), Juan Martín Caicedo, warned that the National Highway Institute (Invías) owes almost a billion pesos to hundreds of firms in the country. These range from consulting services to construction and auditing.
Caicedo expanded that Those delays in bill payments equate to delays of up to eight months. The union’s concern is that, if the situation continues, public works in the country could have repercussions such as its “imminent paralysis.”

“We are talking about non-payment of invoices that today are reflected up to eight months late. The situation, for obvious reasonsleads to financial difficulties that are already suffocating companies, “mostly SMEs that carry out the aforementioned activities,” he warned.
The Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure asserted that the “paralysis” would cover works that are, precisely, in charge of Invías, today chaired by Juan Carlos Montenegro. The union representative called on the entity to settle the outstanding amounts as soon as possible.

The CCI alert comes almost two months after The Comptroller’s Office warned about “a serious situation” in the execution of concessioned works from both ANI and Invías. His calling elevated him, on that occasion, to aqueduct projects, tertiary roads, bridges, etc.
At the end of November, within the framework of the ICC congress in Cartagena, the director of Invías, Juan Carlos Montenegro admitted that there were delays in projects and attributed them to the lack of budget and climatic conditions such as increased rainfall. He noted that the entity was working to fulfill the commitments.
