The future Secretary of the Presidency of Yamandú Orsi’s government, Alejandro “Pacha” Sánchez, made statements about the political situation in Venezuela. In his comments, he stated that “there is only one government, which is the one that was sworn in, that of (Nicolás) Maduro.” However, he pointed out that the incoming government does not consider that there is complete democracy.

Sánchez highlighted that the elected president Yamandú Orsi has been forceful regarding the situation in Venezuela. According to him, there has been a deterioration in democratic conditions in the country, questioning the legitimacy of the last election.

This problem is a political reality that, according to the future Uruguayan government, affects all of Latin America..

Uruguay as a platform for dialogue

Alejandro Sánchez stressed that the future Uruguayan government will seek to promote dialogue between political actors in Venezuela. «What we will look for are the paths of dialogue“he expressed, suggesting that Uruguay could serve as a platform for mediation. The objective is to channel Venezuelan conflicts through institutional and democratic means.

This approach highlights the incoming government’s intention to provide a space for the parties in conflict dialogue and seek peaceful resolutions. Sánchez emphasized that the dialogue must include all parties involved and that the purpose is to help Venezuelans find a democratic solution to the conflict.

Sánchez also mentioned that even the president-elect of the United States, donald trumphas accepted negotiate with the Maduro government, which reinforces the position that Uruguay has adopted in this regard. According to Sánchez, the elections can be questioned, but the fact is that there is currently only one operating government.
