The insults towards the former Colombian president occurred after Uribe proposed an international military intervention to overthrow the Venezuelan regime, from the city of Cúcuta.
This occurred after Maduro was sworn in for a third presidential term before the National Assembly, despite having lost the July 28, 2024 elections.

In the diplomatic note that will be sent through official channels this Tuesday, Respect will be demanded towards Álvaro Uribe Vélez, who governed Colombia between 2002 and 2010.
From the High Government they explained that this claim will be presented despite the political differences between the former president and President Gustavo Petro.
And the opposition leader has been one of the most critical of the Colombian government’s position in relation to the political crisis in Venezuela, especially for maintaining diplomatic relations with the Maduro regime. Likewise, Urbe Vélez has questioned the social reforms that are currently being processed in the Congress of the Republic.
Rejection of military intervention
It is worth mentioning that the Government of Colombia has categorically rejected Uribe’s proposal for military intervention, calling it “inconvenient.”
