Exactly two years after taking office, 55% of Uruguayans approve of the management of President Luis Lacalle Pou, 34% of the population disapproves of it and 11% avoids speaking out, according to the latest survey by the consulting firm Cifra released this Tuesday. on Telemundo.
The evaluation is, according to the study, largely positive among those who voted for a government coalition party in 2019: 82% approve, while 12% of the ruling party voters disapprove.
Among those who voted for the Broad Front in the last elections, approval drops to 18%, while 67% disapprove of the management.
The Cifra report recalled that on March 1, 2020, Lacalle had 60% favorable expectations at the beginning of his term. A year later, 64% approved of his performance. Thus, in the last twelve months the president’s approval was reduced by nine points and stood at the minimum that the president has registered so far.
In any case, the study showed that positive evaluations were always the majority throughout the entire administration, reaching a maximum of 66% in mid-2020. Negative judgments, meanwhile, doubled in two years. At the beginning of the mandate, they were barely 16%.
On the other hand, if the records that Lacalle Pou exhibits today are compared with previous presidents at this point in the mandate, the current president maintains a higher level of approval, except for the one that Tabaré Vázquez had in 2007, upon completing the second year of his term. first government. In comparison, Jorge Batlle barely received 18% of positive opinions in 2002 and José Mujica obtained 47% in 2012. Vázquez had 35% of positive evaluations in 2017.
The survey was conducted via landline and cell phones to 809 interviewees throughout the country between February 10 and 17.
