Trump calls California authorities 'incompetent' for managing the fires

The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, accused California authorities this Sunday of incompetence in their management of the forest fires that are devastating Los Angeles.

«The fires continue to burn in Los Angeles. Incompetent politicians have no idea how to shut them down,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

«This is one of the worst catastrophes in the history of our country. They just can’t put out the fires. “What’s wrong with them?” he wrote this Sunday, January 12.

The speed and intensity of the fires ravaging Los Angeles have led to questions and criticism about the state’s preparedness.

Hydrants ran dry in Pacific Palisades, a neighborhood devastated by one of five active fires in the region, while water shortages also hampered work elsewhere.

Days after his return to the White House, Trump has launched a series of attacks without evidence in which he accuses the Democratic governor of California, Gavin Newsom, of failures in the response to the fires.

Newsom, for his part, invited Trump to visit Los Angeles and survey the devastation with him.

The fires have killed at least 16 people, displaced 150,000 and destroyed more than 12,000 structures according to state officials.

«Thousands of magnificent houses have disappeared and many more will soon be lost. “There is death everywhere,” Trump said in his post.

Despite the efforts of firefighters, the Palisades Fire has continued to move east toward the Getty Center art museum’s priceless collection and north toward the densely populated San Fernando Valley.
