Talking about CPI during 2024 is also referring to everything related to inflation. In this sense, the impact generated on the prices of goods and services is also reflected in different sectors. Faced with this situation, the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) revealed the division with the greatest increase during the last year and its percentage.
In a press release that has been published on the official website of the aforementioned entity, it is indicated that the annual variation of the CPI during the last year was 5.20%, a behavior that had some impacts on accommodation, water, electricity, gas, fuel, restaurants and of course hotels.
Speaking clearly of the divisions, it referred to education, the organization indicated that it had a variation of 10.62%. In this scenario, increases in prices were identified aimed at secondary education, preschool and basic primary education, as well as payments for the concept of homework consulting in conjunction with classes taught by individuals.
To a lesser extent, reductions were recorded linked to enrollment in technical and university courses, diplomas and other types of expenses, respectively.
Restaurants and tourism, also with significant increases

Now, getting into the matter at the level of the restaurant and tourism sector, DANE added: “recorded an annual variation of 7.87%, this being the second highest annual variation. In December 2024, the largest price increases were recorded in the subclasses: payment for food in canteens (11.59%), meals in table service and self-service establishments (8.12%) and meals prepared outside the home for immediate consumption (8.05%),” he pointed out.
“The smallest price increases were reported in the subclasses: accommodation services in hotels, pensions, inns, hostels and motels (4.97%), expenses in nightclubs, bars, grills, taverns, inns and indoor and outdoor shops (5.64%) and soda and other soft drinks in table service and self-service establishments (5.95%)”, he concluded.
Finally, the information and communication division was also taken into account, which had a variation of -093%. “In December 2024, the largest negative variation was recorded in the subclass: mobile telephone equipment, similar and repair (-23.46%)”, they stated.
