The president of the Managua Merchants Association, Jorge González, through official media, revealed that Chinese investors are building a mega supermarket next to the Oriental Market, exactly on the land where the Victoria Brewery previously operated, in front of the Nicaraguan Food Company. (Enabas), at kilometer one and a half of Carretera Norte.
The work has an area of 8,687 square meters and, according to Gonzàlez, it will be a few meters from the sector where the Managua Mayor’s Office will build the Oriental Market 2, where he also assured that there will also be the participation of Chinese investors.
González indicated that at least 300 investors of Asian origin have started businesses in the Eastern Market.
Supermarket will be ready in February
Nancy Orozco, architect of the company CODUSA, which is carrying out the work, told official media that the supermarket will be ready no later than February 14, the Day of Love and Friendship.
«The supermarket will be ready by mid-February, with all security measures and construction permits. In addition, it will have ample parking and will be located in front of the North Highway”; Orozco stated.

In addition, he indicated that the investors’ plans are to offer clothing, shoes, Chinese food products, household items and personal use in said supermarket. Projections indicate that this will be “the largest construction” of Chinese capital in Managua.
Vladimir Rivera, general manager of Commema, at the beginning of this year indicated that in the Eastern Market – in 2024 – more than a thousand new businesses will open with capital that came mainly from China, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. In addition, he revealed that by 2025 they plan to build more than 50 stores with two or more floors in that same shopping center.
