Alagoas lawyer Marcello Lavenère Machado, aged 86, died this Sunday (12), in Brasília (DF). He became nationally known for having, as president of the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), signed the impeachment request of former president Fernando Collor de Mello, in 1992.

In notes of condolence, sections of the Brazilian Bar Association highlighted Lavenère’s role in defending democracy, social justice and human rights. The jurist was born in Maceió and became a life member of the Federal Council of the OAB.
Against the dictatorship
The lawyer was president of the Amnesty Commission of the Ministry of Justice, between 2003 and 2007, where he dedicated himself to analyzing reparations for victims of the military dictatorship, working for the rights of the politically persecuted.
In a note published in
Lula conveyed feelings and solidarity to the family, friends, colleagues and admirers of the lawyer, who was also a member of the Justice and Peace Commission of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil.
In the academic field, Lavenère was a professor at the Federal University of Alagoas (Ufal), the University of Brasília (UnB) and the Escola Superior do Ministério Público.
He leaves behind a wife, 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. The wake and cremation will take place on Monday (13), in Brasília.
