Famous German ex-footballer Lothar Matthäus spotted visiting Cuba

AREQUIPA, Peru – The legendary former German soccer player and Ballon d’Or winner, Lothar Matthäus, is in Cuba and was seen this weekend in Havana.

A report from the state Cubadebate tells of a tour of the athlete through the Floridita Bar-Restaurant, where Matthäus participated in a master class on the preparation of the authentic daiquiri, guided by the teachers of the famous establishment. Likewise, he was seen taking photos with several followers.

Lothar Herbert Matthäus was born in March 1961 in Erlangen, Bavaria. He is recognized for his outstanding career in football, having participated in five World Cups and won the 1980 European Championship.

In addition, he shares the record for the highest number of participations in different editions of the World Cup along with other prominent footballers such as Gianluigi Buffon, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Matthäus started your professional career in 1979 with Borussia Mönchengladbach of the Bundesliga. Later, he played for Bayern Munich and FC Internazionale Milano of Serie A.

During his time at Bayern Munich, he won several Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Cup titles. At Inter Milan, he won the Scudetto and the UEFA Cup in 1999.

He returned to Bayern Munich in 1992 and continued his success, winning four Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals and another UEFA Cup.

After his retirement as a player, Matthäus ventured as a coach in several teams. He started at Rapid Vienna and then coached Partizan Belgrade, where he won the League title in the 2002/200 season.

On the other hand, he had a brief stint with the Hungarian national team and later coached the Clube Atlético Paranaense in Brazil.

In 2006, Matthäus was announced as a coach of Red Bull Salzburg of Austria, where he won the league title. However, he was fired from the team and went on to coach Maccabi Netanya in Israel.

Lothar Matthäus is considered one of the most important footballers of the German national team and has left a significant mark on world football. His relevant career as both a player and coach has made him a recognized and respected figure in the football world.
