On the American continent, Mr. Trump invites Canada to become a new state of the American Union; It tells the small, ice giant, the State of Denmark, that it requires Greenland to consolidate its claims of national security, and Panama reminds it that the treaties can be dissolved, reformed or interpreted, if they do not accommodate its whims and to remember the last war and invasion of old Bush under the pretext of Noriega (1989).
More than a century ago, the United States waged war on Spain and kept, among other territories, Puerto Rico, which is currently defined as commonwealth
because it was simply annexed, but not incorporated, as a State of the Union and they have plunged it into poverty and abandonment. But if they do propose incorporation into Canada, could it be because they are Anglo, White and Protestant (WASP) and the others are Hispanic, Catholic and Latin American?
In the Middle East, Israel does the same by expanding, confining and dividing Palestinians into two separate territories, allowing its settlers to invade and run over Palestinian property. It already kept, decades ago, the Golan Heights, Syrian territory, and now it is expanding again, arbitrarily invading and militarily capturing large territories of its neighbor, which was unprotected in a bloody civil war against the dictator Bashar al Assad. .
For the government of Israel, it is not about the Calvinist manifest destiny of the Americans; they have their own Zionist discourse, considering themselves as the chosen people, which justifies their presence in Palestine since time immemorial, in addition to their territorial expansion, their colonial rule and their current ethnic cleansing project. For decades, the State of Israel justified its territorial annexation as a reward for the atrocities it suffered in the Holocaust and, currently, in response to the desperate terrorism of a faction of Palestinians, they wage a war of extermination, of scorched earth, when we must remember that they themselves were terrorists when fighting for their independence.
The State of Israel arrogated to itself the exclusivity of the Holocaust, when many other peoples were similarly massacred and almost exterminated throughout history. And all this to become, finally, a genocidal State, which does not even respect a minimum of biblical equity, because of the eye for eye, tooth for tooth and ends up devastating, a hundredfold, soldiers and civilians, men, women, children and solidarity workers.
We must also take into account the radical change in the geopolitical map of Eastern Europe, where Western expansion, with the innocent argument of free trade and the lure of integration into the European Union, has redesigned the balance of forces of NATO and expand to the very border with Russia. The same thing that Israel does in Palestine and Syria, blessed by the West, Russia does in Ukraine, but in this case it is not valid and we must go to war on it.
Each case is, obviously, different and different arguments could be put on the table, but what is also obvious is the territorial expansion, real or intended, of territories by the United States, Israel, the NATO tandem with the United States. and Russia that also justifies war and intervention on grounds of national security.
Worst of all, there is actually no decent way out in any of the cases; the annexation of territories in the past, of the strip of the canal that belonged to Colombia, with the well-known argument of buys
of territory by the United States, is repeated in the case of Greenland. There is also no civilized and negotiated solution, in the case of Israel and Palestine, except for total extermination, which both parties propose, specifically Israeli and Palestinian factions. And in the case of Russia and Ukraine, a military solution is not possible, no matter how determined the United States and the European Union are to support or allow the Ukrainian people to be massacred.
Three cases where manifest destiny has been present and where the entire world waits for a civilized solution on the part of the opposing regional powers, a solution that does not exist, except for the arrogance of regional and global powers, with countries and peoples, in comparison tiny ones, like Denmark, Panama, Palestine and Ukraine.
