Santo Domingo. – The major general, Juan Manuel Méndez García, clarified that he has not been dismissed from the Emergency Operations Center (COE), as had been speculated in some media and social networks this Saturday.
«No, I have not been dismissed. “I spoke with the president, he told me the same thing (…), the president is the one who decides and says no, he has not even thought about this,” said the also head of the Directorate of Out-of-hospital Emergency Care Services (Daeh), in a video published on the social network Instagram.
Méndez has around two decades at the head of the COE, an institution to which he arrived after joining the ranks of the Dominican Republic Army.
During his management, he has had the responsibility of coordinating responses to emergency situations facing the country, such as the passage of storms or hurricanes during the cyclonic season.
The major general also leads the Easter, Christmas and New Year operationsto avoid incidents that put people’s lives at risk.
