The self-proclaimed president of Venezuela attacked the former Colombian president.
Nicolás Maduro, who took office this Friday, illegitimatelyhis third presidential term for the period 2025-2031, expressed this Saturday that in Venezuela “nobody wants military intervention.”

“Álvaro Uribe Vélez. Sad paramilitary and drug trafficker, murderer and criminal. Today calling for the military intervention of Venezuela. Coward. Come to the front of the troops Álvaro Uribe, I will wait for you on the battlefield, coward, mean, fascist“Criminal, drug trafficker, show your face, don’t send other criminals,” said Maduro.
For his part, former Colombian president Álvaro Uribe, during a political event in Cúcuta, raised the need for international action to restore democracy in Venezuela. “We call for international intervention, preferably endorsed by the United Nations, to remove these tyrants from power and immediately call for free elections“, he expressed.
Former President Iván Duque supported the proposal and, through his X account, urged opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia to seek international support for a humanitarian intervention in the country. According to Duke, This would allow human rights to be guaranteed and the democratic order to be restored in Venezuela.
Opposition leader María Corina Machado also spoke out, highlighting the resistance of the Venezuelan people to the Maduro government. “The people have defied fear and brutal repression, standing united and firm in the face of a criminal regime, desperate to hold on to power“he wrote in X.
Machado affirmed that the opposition is determined to win freedom under the leadership of Edmundo González, whom he considers the legitimate president after the questioned elections last July. “Venezuela will emerge stronger, freer and more united than ever“he assured.

For his part, opposition leader Leopoldo López stated that he agreed with the proposal launched by Uribe: “After going through all the paths, including winning an election with 70% of the votes, this proposal must be seriously considered. I dare say that the vast majority of Venezuelans agree“.
While Maduro consolidated his mandate illegally with the support of the National Assemblycontrolled by Chavismo, a large part of the international community, including the Organization of American States (OAS), continues to ignore its government. This panorama keeps Venezuela at the center of the regional and international political debate.
