Vicente Joel Hernández Navarro, Secretary of Health in Tamaulipas, said that the work in the area of mental health and addictions focuses on the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits, the prevention of mental health and substance use problems and disorders, specialized care, as well as the psychosocial rehabilitation of patients treated for comprehensive health.
Every year the governor of the state, Américo Villarreal Anaya, manages the necessary resources to monitor mental health issues and make effective the right to mental health care and the prevention of addictions in the population, through a community model with a comprehensive primary health care approach and with full respect for human rights
he pointed out.
He said that to reduce the high demand for care compared to the number of specialized health personnel that exists in this matter, as well as the geographical distance of the centers that provide this type of care and the associated stigma, training has been carried out in the last two years to an average of 4,900 people in the mhGAP Intervention Guide for mental, neurological and substance use disorders at the non-specialized health care level.
In Tamaulipas, at the first level of care (health centers), psychological care is provided in the mental health modules that exist in health centers and health jurisdictions, as well as in the 18 Community Centers for Mental Health and Addictions Uneme Cecosama established in 15 municipalities of the state such as Victoria, Soto la Marina, Hidalgo, Tampico, Madero, Altamira, Matamoros, Valle Hermoso, Reynosa, Río Bravo, Nuevo Laredo, Miguel Alemán, Cd. Mante, San Fernando and Jaumave; and in the Uneme Cisame Comprehensive Mental Health Centers, located in Victoria and Nuevo Laredo.
At the second level of care, mental health and addiction services are offered and reinforced at the Aldama Comprehensive Hospital, the general hospitals of Victoria, Tampico, Matamoros, Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Mante, Valle Hermoso and Altamira; in the civil hospitals of Victoria, Madero and the children’s hospital of Nuevo Laredo.
