Authorities seize half a ton of cocaine in the port of Cartagena

The officers found the 500 packages of cocaine hydrochloride, camouflaged within a shipment of cocoa beans.

The National Police, through the Anti-Narcotics Directorate and the Cartagena Port Control Anti-Narcotics Companymade a successful seizure of 500 kilos of cocaine hidden in a container bound for Belgium. This important operation was carried out through an exhaustive process of profiling and physical inspection of containers in the city’s port.

The officers found whats 500 packets of cocaine hydrochloride, camouflaged inside a shipment of cocoa beans. The modality used to hide the drugs was the so-called RIP-OFF, in which drug traffickers modify the original cargo to introduce illicit substances without being detected.

The net weight of the drugs seized was 500 kilos, which represents a significant blow to the finances of criminal groups operating in the country. According to authorities’ calculations, this seizure will affect approximately 29 million 500 thousand euros in illicit income, in addition to avoiding the distribution of 1,250,000 doses in consumption areas.

The National Police highlighted the importance of this operation as part of a continuous offensive against drug trafficking, one of the main threats to the security and stability of Colombia. “Thanks to the coordination and joint work of our units, we have achieved a significant blow that prevents the distribution of large quantities of drugs to Europe,” said the Colonel César Yovanny Pinzon Higuera, Director of Anti-Narcotics (e) of the National Police.

In addition, a call was made to citizens to continue collaborating in the fight against drug trafficking, illicit crops and money laundering. The National Police recalled that anyone who has information about suspicious activities related to drug trafficking can report through the Anti-Drug Line 167, guaranteeing the confidentiality of the calls.

“This operation is another example of the commitment of the Colombian authorities in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime, with the aim of reducing the impact of these illegal activities both nationally and internationally,” said Colonel Pinzón.
