Santiago. – The Mayor’s Office of Santiago began this Saturday the construction of a new cemetery in the Gurabo sector, financed with resources from the budget municipal administrative.
During the event, the mayor Ulises Rodríguezassured that the project marks a before and after for the community, since it will address an urgent need after saturation of the Gurabo I and Gurabo II holy fields.
“Today is a special day because we solve a historic problem for Gurabo. We know that saying goodbye to our loved ones is a difficult moment, but it must be done with dignity, peace and tranquility. This cemetery will be a space that symbolizes respect and eternal rest,” said Rodríguez.
According to the Mayor’s Office, the project, which will be supervised by the Municipal Public Works Directorate, represents a total investment of RD$63,677,000.00which includes the acquisition of the land, with a development area of 6,236.51 square meters.
The cemetery will have among its main components, a front facade representative of local identity, spaces of niches designed with respect and solemnity, access roads that facilitate the visitor trafficremodeling of the chapel for dignified ceremonies, connectivity with the Gurabo II cemetery to guarantee continuity in services, ossuaries, perimeter fence, lighting system For greater security, security cameras and ample parking for the comfort of users.
In that sense, Governor Rosa Santos called for the cooperation of citizens to preserve this and other works carried out by the authorities:
“The infrastructures that are built are not only the responsibility of the authorities; They are goods for the use, consumption and enjoyment of the entire community. Therefore, we need them to be taken care of,” he said.
The event also included the participation of Frank Medina, vice president of the Council of Aldermen; as well as with those of his colleagues; Franklin Veras, Moisés Moronta, Esmeily Espinal, Marino Colón, Mary Gonell, Ramón Mariné, Franco Núñez and Disneiry Betances.
Likewise, former mayor Víctor Méndez was present; Lucildo Gómez, deputy director general of Information and Press of the Presidency of the Republic; Federico Reynoso, national director of Media of the Directorate of Government Strategy and Communication (Diecom), and a representation of Gurabo businessmen and dozens of community leaders in the sector.
