Morena’s vice coordinator in the Senate, Ignacio Mier, considered that the more than a thousand candidates registered in the evaluation committee of the Judiciary (CEPJ) should promote trials for the protection of their political-electoral rights so that it is reversed. the arbitrariness
of that body to suspend the process of selecting candidates for the election of judges.
The trials, he stressed, must be presented before the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF), since the CEPJ’s decision flagrantly transgresses the rights of all people who have complied with the constitutional requirements to continue in the selection of those who will go. to the polls next June 1st.
Meanwhile, in the other two evaluation committees, the Executive and the Legislative, work continues to examine its nearly 23 thousand prospects and define who is suitable for judicial positions and move on to the next stage. They have only 20 days to do this, since the call for the election of judges, magistrates and ministers issued by the Senate states that the list must be published before January 31.
Each of the three committees issued their own rules, in calls published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), on November 4, 2024.
In the case of the evaluation committee of the Legislative Branch, it does not have to interview the 10,877 applicants who passed the first test, which was the presentation of the required documentation – title, an essay and five letters of recommendation – but it will exclusively with those candidates who obtain the highest score based on an analysis of their academic merits, experience and honesty.
According to the call that this committee published on November 4 in the DOFonly those who achieve at least 80 points
They will hold a face-to-face or virtual interview with at least two of the members of the CEPL, which will be communicated to the people considered in a timely manner.
In a score of 100 percent, 40 points correspond to academic merits, 30 to merits of professional experience and 30 to honesty and good public reputation.
Until now, the CEPL, which is made up of Ana Patricia Briseño, Andrés García Réper, Maribel Méndez de Lara, Maday Merino Damián and María Gabriela Sánchez García, has not reported progress in the process.
In the case of the evaluation committee of the Executive Branch, it is also considered to interview the more than 11 thousand applicants, although in its call, also on November 4, it is not specified if it will be done with all of them.
The CEPJ had planned to interview its 25 aspiring ministers, the nine from the Fiscal Disciplinary Court and 8 from the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Court of the Judiciary. For the remaining 1,011 candidates for the other positions of magistrates and judges, a written exam would be administered.
In this regard, Mier considered that the members of the CEPJ incurred responsibilities by complying with the resolution of the district judge based in Morelia, Michoacán, Sergio Santamaría Chamú, to suspend the process, since he does not have the power to do so. He trusted that the TEPJF would reverse that illegal decision.
