In recent weeks there have been presentations heavy rains in the department of Meta, which have caused some emergencies, for this reason the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) issued a red alert in several municipalities of this department due to the risk of landslides in hillside and high slope areas.
Jorge Díaz, director of Civil Defense in Meta, delivered a detailed report of the areas with the highest risk of landslides in this area of the country.
“The most affected points are kilometer 58, on the Bogotá-Villavicencio road, and the municipalities of El Calvario and San Juanito, where the terrain is unstable due to the rains,” the official indicated.
Ideam also issued a orange alert in the municipalities of Acacías, Cumaral, Villavicencio and a yellow alert for the municipalities of Cubarral, El Calvario, El Castillo, Guamal, where moisture saturation occurs in the soils, which give rise to different levels of probability for the occurrence of landslides.

Relief agencies are also carrying out monitoring in the municipalities of Restrepo, Cumaral, Barranca de Upía, Cabularo, Acacías, Guamal, San Carlos de Guaroa, El Castillo, El Dorado and Cubarral, where mass removals and sudden floods could occur.
“In these municipalities we have community observers who inform us of emergencies that occur in those areas to alert the authorities so that these events do not cause loss of life,” explained Jorge Díaz.
The Ideam also generated alerts in several rivers in Meta, where sudden floods may be recorded due to the rains.
Thus, Jorge Díaz called on the communities to be attentive to any change in the conditions of the land and bodies of water.
“It is essential that those who live near slopes or riverbanks follow the recommendations of the authorities and evacuate in time in case of emergency,” said the official.
Given these alerts, the Meta relief agencies also They called on the mayors of the 29 municipalities of this department to update their protocols and contingency plans and adopt preventive measures, with the purpose of facing the effects that may occur due to the rains, which will last at least , until next March.
