MEC chose the project and will grant $1,600,000

The Spanish Association of Cerro Largo obtains vital funds for the work that enables firefighters to enter the Teatro España hall.

The Spanish Association of Cerro Largo has achieved important cultural progress by obtaining 1,600,000 pesos within the framework of the MEC’s non-refundable competitive funds contest, destined for culture. This achievement represents a key step in the history of the emblematic Teatro España, an architectural and cultural icon of the city of Melo, which will now be able to continue with the necessary works to meet the demands of the National Fire Department and ensure its definitive authorization.

A PROJECT WITH A CLEAR OBJECTIVE

The members of the Spanish Association, responsible for the management of the Teatro España, presented an ambitious project to access these funds, with the purpose of carrying out the essential reforms that allow the room to comply with current regulations. The requirement of the National Fire Department, framed in the regulations of the Ministry of the Interior, establishes that, without these adaptations, the theater will not be able to continue operating.

The project includes advanced but still unfinished works, whose total cost is estimated at 5,000,000 US dollars. Obtaining the 1,600,000 pesos will allow a crucial stage of the process to be completed, ensuring that the theater continues to be a space enabled for the performance of shows in safe conditions and within the legal framework.

NECESSARY WORKS AND EQUIPMENT

Among the necessary reforms is the installation of smoke detector equipment, a water tank, fire pumps, fire extinguishers, and the provision of emergency exits. These measures are essential to guarantee the safety of attendees and comply with the requirements established by Firefighters.

In addition to these specific adaptations, the Teatro España faces a constant maintenance challenge. The repairs to the seats, the conservation of the building and the fulfillment of tax obligations represent a sustained effort for the Spanish Association, which works tirelessly to preserve this cultural space.

A SPACE IN CONSTANT EVOLUTION

The Teatro España is not just a building, but a symbol of the cultural life of Melo and an engine for the artistic development of the region. For this reason, the funds obtained not only ensure its continuity, but also reinforce its role as a center of cultural encounter and expression.

Walter Pradié, director of the institution, highlighted that the money received will be used entirely to comply with these demands. As he explained, the renovation of the theater is a collective effort that reflects the association’s commitment to the community.

A CHARITABLE AND CULTURAL LEGACY

The Spanish Association of Cerro Largo, which came to Melo with the mission of carrying out charitable works, has demonstrated a deep commitment to local culture through its management of the Teatro España. This space, which has witnessed countless artistic and cultural events, has established itself as a key place for the development of the city and its inhabitants.

The Theater has been the scene of plays, musical presentations, conferences and events that have left an indelible mark in the memory of the people of Melense. Its preservation not only ensures the continuity of these activities, but also guarantees that future generations can enjoy this cultural heritage.

A PROMISING FUTURE

By obtaining these funds, the Spanish Association takes a firm step towards the completion of the works, ensuring that the Teatro España continues to be a cultural reference in Cerro Largo. However, the work does not end here. The maintenance and constant renovation of the building will continue to be priorities for the board, which continues to look for new ways to finance and strengthen this important space.

This achievement not only represents a victory for the Spanish Association, but also for the entire Melo community, which will be able to continue enjoying a theater that is much more than a building: it is a place where culture, art and history meet. and are projected into the future.
