After the escalation of violence that broke out in Sinaloa in September – due to the alleged kidnapping of capo Ismael May Zambada–, in the first three months of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government there was a slight containment
in the state, officials from the federal security cabinet said.
The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, and the head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa Franco, reported on the presidential morning that, although minimal, there was a decrease in the incidence of homicides in that state from October to December of last year.
In the first eight months of 2024, the average murder rate in the state ranged between 1.1 and 1.7, according to reports.
However, This trend changed radically in September, when 4.8 were recorded per day, reaching the highest point in October, with 5.9 victims per day on average. In November it was 5.8 and in December 5.1, which indicates a slight containment in the escalation of violence, with a decrease of 13.7 percent, between the highest point, which was October, and last December.
said Figueroa Franco.
There is work to do
Meanwhile, García Harfuch pointed out that in the entity A very important effort has been made to reduce violence. There is still a lot of work to do, but after the increase in homicides that occurred, today we can see a containment in the escalation of homicides
.
As a result of the strategy of the current federal government in Sinaloa, the official indicated that 43 priority targets and 558 members of criminal cells have been arrested between September and December.
In addition, the authorities have seized more than 400 vehicles, several of them armored, and almost 700 firearms and more than 100 grenades, as well as 1.1 tons of fentanyl and 167,480 pills of that drug.
Later, to a question about a video that circulated on social networks in which alleged members of the Jalisco cartel appear New Generation distributing bagels and toys to citizens in Tabasco, the President emphasized: we do not agree. As we have stated, our task is to prevent any young person, citizen, boy, girl, from seeing in violence or in any criminal group a perspective of life, because it is not a perspective of life: it is a perspective of death.
. He called not to advocate violence.
