Incident forces passengers from Miami-Camagüey flight to evacuate

SLP, Mexico.- Authorities of the Miami International Airport The 54 passengers and three crew members of an Eastern Air Express plane that would cover the Miami-Camagüey route were evacuated due to an incident.

According to the media CBS News, This Friday, the aircraft was filled with a “smoke smell,” which forced the fire department to be mobilized.

Flight BBQ2241 was scheduled to depart from the Ignacio Agramonte International Airport in Camagüey at 11:40 am. The plane taxied to take off at 11:22, but returned to the gate due to the smell detected inside the cabin.

The passengers were evacuated via the emergency slides and units from the Miami-Dade Fire Department responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found no signs of a fire. However, out of an abundance of caution, all passengers were safely evacuated and firefighters assessed the situation.

MIA spokesman Greg Chin told CBS News That crews found no fire, but are investigating the cause of the smell.

Also this week, a fire broke out between the first and second floors of the Flamingo parking lot at the Miami International Airportas reported media local.

The fire originated around 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday, as confirmed by Rogelio Vandamas, acting chief of the North District of the Miami-Dade Fire Department, who stated that four vehicles They caught fire and were completely burned and eight others nearby were damaged.

The images shown by the media showed large smoke coming from the garage where the fire broke out.

Authorities reported no injuries and added that all of the vehicles involved were gasoline-powered and none were electric.

The Flamingo parking lot was temporarily closed, as was the Dolphin parking lot entrance, which reopened shortly after noon, according to airport spokesman Greg Chin.

The connecting train between the airport and the car rental center was paused for a short period of time and its service was later resumed.

These are not the only accidents that have occurred at the Florida airfield. In 2022, a plane with 126 people on board, coming from the Dominican Republic, caught fire after its landing gear collapsed at Miami International Airport.

Three of the 126 people aboard the aircraft suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospitals.
