India donates “essential” medicines to Cuba

SLP, Mexico.- The Government of India donated medicines to his Cuban counterpart, in the midst of a serious supply crisis in which more than 70% of essential drugs are absent.

Where do drug donations go?

In June 2024, it had sent the regime 90 tons of raw materials to manufacture medicines.

The batch of humanitarian assistance to Cuba included nine active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) manufactured in the South Asian country.

Cuban manufacturers would use the donation to produce essential antibiotics in the dosage form of tablets, capsules, syrups and injections, necessary for the treatment of chronic communicable diseases, according to the official press.

The Indian Foreign Ministry said on that occasion that the donation “reinforces India’s status as the Pharmacy of the World and underlines its commitment to the historic friendship with Cuba, whose formal diplomatic ties will celebrate 65 years in 2025.”

Despite that and other donations of medical suppliesespecially from allied countries such as Russia, China, Nicaragua and Venezuela, The health crisis continues to affect the Cuban peoplewho has to go to the informal market and purchase the medicines they find at exorbitant prices; Therefore, Cubans presume that these donations go to pharmacies in foreign currency, clinics for foreigners and leaders.
