AGU notifies Facebook to delete Haddad's fake video within 24 hours

In the week in which the Brazilian government criticized Meta’s new rules on the publication exclusion policy, the Attorney General’s Office (AGU) sent to Facebook (a social network linked to the company), this Thursday (9), an extrajudicial notification for the platform to remove, within 24 hours, a video tampered with using artificial intelligence (AI).AGU notifies Facebook to delete Haddad's fake video within 24 hours

In the published material, “the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, appears making statements that have never been made”, pointed out the AGU.

The AGU argues that the manipulated post contains fraudulent information and attributes to the minister non-existent statements “about the creation of a tax on pets and prenatal care”, says the notification.

“The analysis of the material highlights the falsity of the information through sudden cuts, noticeable changes in lip movement and discrepancies in voice timbre, typical of content forged with the use of generative artificial intelligence”, points out the AGU.

The Union’s lawyers considered that the video is “misinformative”, as it would present facts that are not consistent with reality in order to “confuse the public about the position of the Minister of Finance on matters of public interest”.

The AGU considers that the misleading and fraudulent nature of the posts goes against Facebook’s own Terms of Use, which prohibit the use of the platform for illegal purposes. The lawyers argue that the platform’s “Community Standards” even recommend the removal of “content that may directly contribute to interfering with the functioning of political processes”.

As an option, if the removal request is not accepted, the AGU wants the video to be marked to inform that it was generated by artificial intelligence and has altered content.

Haddad

On his social networks, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, released a video to deny that the government will tax transactions through Pix or those who have a pet and buy dollars.

“These things are lies, sometimes they mix it with something that is true to confuse public opinion,” he said.

According to the minister, the only true information is that the betsvirtual betting houses, will have to pay taxes like “any other company established in Brazil”.

“It’s important that you follow along and not get into this type of conversation. Fake news it harms democracy and brings a series of insecurities to people”, he added.
