Reinforcement campaign

Reinforcement campaign

Anti-covid vaccination 2025 begins on January 13, in a staggered manner and aimed at risk groups

This is the schedule, priority groups and details of the new vaccine against covid-19 that will be offered in Uruguay.

Next Monday, January 13, a new vaccination reinforcement campaign against covid-19 will begin. Doses of Pfizer will be administered, which especially protect against the JN.1 omicron variant and will be recommended for risk groups. The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) will provide them in stages, as has happened in other years.

On the first day, immunization will begin in Long-Stay Establishments for the Elderly (ELEPEM), or residential facilities. Starting January 20, doses will be available for those over 80 years of age, immunocompromised and pregnant women. And, since January 27, for people over 70 years of age and people with Down syndrome.

Starting February 3, vaccination will be provided for those over 50 years of age with comorbidities. These are diabetes mellitus types 1 and 2, heart disease, severe and morbid obesity, chronic kidney disease, neurological disorders – such as Parkinson’s disease – and respiratory diseases – such as COPD and moderate to severe asthma.

“The vaccination start dates seek to organize the number of users who will access it, however, they are not exclusive in the event that there is an indication and/or medical criterion for its application,” the MSP pointed out.

In this campaign, Comirnaty – Sars CoV2 omicron JN.1 vaccines will be provided, from the Pfizer laboratory, more modern than those offered a year ago, which were against omicron XBB.1.5.

They will be available in vaccination centers of the Honorary Commission for the Fight against Tuberculosis and private vaccination centers, which already have the vaccine, the MSP noted.
