Owner of social networks Instagram, Facebook and Threadsin addition to the messaging application Whatsappthe company Meta updated, this Thursday (9), also for the Portuguese language, the new rules for possible deletions of posts, in the item Community Standards/Hateful Conduct. A text with the rules, released on the 7th in English, allowed prejudiced publications. Check the page.Meta standards that allow bias are published in Portuguese

The company reported, for example, that it allows “claims of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, considering political and religious discourses about transgenderism and homosexuality, as well as the common and non-literal use of terms such as queer”.

Religious beliefs

In addition to this excerpt, there are other prejudiced permissions related to gender standards, such as content that defends gender-based limitations for military, police and teaching jobs. “We also allow similar content related to sexual orientation, as long as it is based on religious beliefs” detailed the company.

Still on the topic, Meta considers that people use “sex or gender-specific language” to discuss access to spaces such as bathrooms, schools, military, police or teaching positions, as well as health or support groups.

In the context of separations

The text also addresses that there are requests for exclusion or use of offensive language when addressing political or religious topics, such as the rights of transgender people, immigration or homosexuality.

“It is also common for insults towards a gender to occur in the context of romantic separations. Our policies were created to give space to these types of speech”, highlighted Meta.

In the introduction, she argues that she recognizes that people can share content that includes slurs or someone else’s speech to condemn the speech or report it.

“In other cases, speech, including slurs that could violate our standards, is used in a self-referential or empowering manner. We allow this type of speech when the person’s intention is clearly defined”, he specified, explaining later that, if the intention is not clear, he can remove the content.

If it’s satire…

At the end, the text indicates that, in “certain cases”, it may allow content that may not follow “Community Standards”, if irony is intended. “The content will only be permitted if the violating elements are satire or attributed to something or someone with the aim of mocking or criticizing”, he points out.

The Meta changes meet the requirements of the president-elect of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, regarding the functioning of social networks. The owner of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, also stated that he will join forces with Trump against countries that create rules for the functioning of platforms.

“Brazil is not a lawless land”

The Meta standards, since their publication, have been criticized by public authorities and civil entities.

President Lula, for example, stated this Thursday (9) that he will hold a meeting to discuss the new rules announced by the multinational Meta.

“What we want, in fact, is for each country to have its sovereignty protected. One citizen cannot, two citizens cannot, three citizens cannot think they can harm the sovereignty of a nation”, said Lula this Thursday ( 9).

The Attorney General’s Office (AGU), in fact, stated that Brazil is not a “land without law” and that it will act against changes in the content moderation policy of Meta’s social networks from the moment they affect democracy or violate Brazilian laws.

The National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals (Antra) filed a representation with the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) against Meta. “The Brazilian state needs to give strong responses to this situation! It is unacceptable for this to happen when we have laws that protect us!”, he pointed out.
