Government launches notice to support e-commerce in three regions

Retailers bring forward tax on purchases of up to US$50 to Saturday

The Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) and the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) launched a notice to promote e-commerce in the North, Northeast and Central-West regions. In the first phase of the selection process, 20 projects will be selected, one for each federation unit of the regions covered by the notice. In the second stage, nine projects will be chosen to receive financial support, worth R$380,000 each. Of these, three will continue to the scale phase, for another year, with technical monitoring and support from ABDI, in partnership with the MDIC, and receiving resources worth R$500,000.

The E-commerce.BR notice will reward innovative solutions that help micro, small and medium-sized companies in the country to overcome obstacles in logistics, digital training and communication online.

To the registrations run until February 17th of this year and can be carried out by Innovation Networks made up of at least three public or private institutions at state, district or municipal level, which work to support micro, small or medium-sized companies in the North, Northeast regions and Midwest.

According to data from the National Electronic Commerce Observatory, from the MDIC, electronic commerce in Brazil generated R$196.1 billion in 2023, a growth of 4.8% compared to the previous year. However, the concentration of sales online is still large: the Southeast accounts for 73.5% of transactions, in contrast to the Northeast (7%), Central-West (3%) and North (1.3%).
